Domesticated Lion
~*~ Art by Seblaze ~*~
This article is about a form that I frequently feel internally.
Person: You're a lion! That's cool. So, do you have the urge to hunt?Me: Well...no. Maybe that little red dot that moves across the ground.
Person: Oh...what about mating?
Me: No, not really.
Person: Oh, I guess that's fine. Do you like girls then?
Me: No...not really. I mean, I'll date them, but it's because I'm panromantic.
Person:...but you must hate guys?
Me: No, not really...I actually date guys. Again...I'm panromantic.
Person:...oh, okay. I guess you want a pride, then, right?
Me: No...I don't need one.
Person: You must be really defensive of your territory, though!
Me: No...
Person:...then you can't be a lion.
Me: Well, I am. But I'm domesticated.
Person: ...you can't domesticate a lion.
Me: I'm domesticated.
People like to assume that because you're a therian you experience your theriotype as something that's wild and as all of the urges of a wild animal. That it means you have to have the urge to mate (not really...sometimes, but not usually and not to breed), to hunt (mostly that ebil red dot), to mark territory (which I do, but so does every critter out there), to do all sorts of animal things.
But I don't.
I want to roll around in a box and get my belly scratched. I want to have my ears pet and my 'mane' stroked. I want to get scratches on my back and I want to chase that awful red dot! I want to eat meat, but I don't want to catch it. I don't have any desire to kill anything. I don't even want to defend my territory all that much. I just want to be loved on and snuggled. Yes, sometimes there's that the little urge of 'wild' that peeks up, but it's easily satiated by playing games.
I'm a small cat in a large cat's body. Which isn't as uncommon as people think. Some cats who were born and raised in captivity exhibit traits similar to domesticated house cats including sitting in boxes, looking to get pet, etc. They do all have the potential to turn on their handlers and some do. I probably have that potential, too, or I would if I wasn't currently in a human body.
Anyway, for all intents and purposes, I'm a domesticated lion. I feel like a lion. I just feel like one that's been born and raised in captivity, possibly over several generations. The phantom "shifts", the latent urges, etc. all give rise to being a lion. I can feel a mane, I can feel a tail that curls with a tuft at the end. There're ears situated where a lion's is. There's a large muzzle. There's even a sheath along with what is in one. It's like you put a lion over the human body (so it's anthropomorphic in nature). But, overall, the personality is like a house cat (and, let's face it, house cats aren't far removed from their ancestors).
So, I am a lion. I'm just domesticated.
